Fill me up!

… until only Jesus was left…

Yes. This hit me. As often as I have read the account of the adulterous woman, today - this one phrase caught my attention.

Then Jesus said to her,  “Go and sin no more.” (John 8:11) It made me think of all the things like anxieties and fears, like grumblings, negativity, and temptations vying for my attention and filling my head. My very life. Surrounding me day and night. If I could only get rid of them. If they would all just GO.  I could have some peace.

If I didn’t allow temptations to overtake me, it would be so much easier to “Go and sin no more.” Just remove them all…

“When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, seeking rest but finding none. Then it says, ‘I will return to the person I came from.’ So it returns and finds its former home empty, swept, and in order.” Matthew‬ ‭12‬:‭43‬-‭44‬ ‭NLT‬‬

But wait! Peace doesn’t come from just removing them all. That space needs to be filled - with something. Or Someone.

…until only Jesus was left…

Another verse comes to mind. We like to hang on to the first part, but I focus again on the second part:

“So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. (Yay, God!)

Yes, I realize that you are descendants of Abraham. And yet some of you are trying to kill me because there’s no room in your hearts for my message.”

‭‭John‬ ‭8‬:‭36‬-‭37‬ ‭NLT‬‬ (emphasis mine)

Spend your time with Jesus, living a life of loving and giving, remaining in Him and living as a testimony of His character - choosing, deciding, again and again - this lifestyle with no room for that which is dark and hindering to yourself or others… until only Jesus is left as your resource for living. Then you can enjoy the freedom and peace of Christ. It is a gift meant for you.
